How TrialTutor handles your information
Effective October 4, 2026 · Version 2026-10-04
The short version. You speak, AI plays the witness, opposing counsel, and judge, and TrialTutor saves a transcript, a feedback report, and a recording of your voice so you can review your work. During the beta, TrialTutor staff may read those transcripts and reports and listen to the recordings to check quality and improve the product. You can ask us not to review your sessions: email hello@trialtutor.com and tell us why. Practice with hypothetical or de-identified facts, and keep privileged or confidential client information out of the beta.
1. What we collect
- Account information. Your name, email address, password (handled by our authentication provider), account role (student, instructor, or administrator), and school or office.
- Sign-up and survey answers. What you do (for example, public defender or law student), how you heard about us, how you practice today, what you would pay, how many people at your school or office might use TrialTutor, and what you want to practice first. We also record where you came from (referring site and campaign tags) and your browser type.
- Practice sessions. A text transcript of what you and the AI participants say, the case materials used in the drill, objections and rubric results, and the feedback report and scores we generate.
- Audio. Your microphone audio is streamed live to our speech-to-text provider to produce the transcript. We also save a recording of your voice during practice sessions, along with the audio of the AI participants' spoken replies, so a session can be replayed and reviewed. A recording captures everything you say out loud and the sound of your voice. Voice recording is on by default, and you can turn it off at any time in Account settings.
- Usage and cost data. How many sessions you run, how long they last, and the estimated processing cost of each.
- Messages to us. Feedback ratings and comments, support requests, and emails you send.
- Approximate location. Optional, and only if you share it when you sign up: either the area your browser reports, rounded to about a kilometer, or a US ZIP code. You can skip it. A ZIP code is sent to our postal-code lookup provider to look up the city and state.
- Cookies and analytics. Cookies that keep you signed in, plus aggregate page-view statistics from our analytics provider.
2. How we use it
- To run the drills, produce your transcript and feedback, and let you replay and review past sessions.
- To review sessions for quality assurance (section 3) and to improve the product.
- To provide support, manage access and usage limits, and keep the service secure.
- To email you about your account, your beta access, and product updates.
- To route your voice calls to a nearby server when you share a location or ZIP code, so the calls sound closer to a real courtroom.
3. Quality-assurance review of sessions
TrialTutor administrators may review your session transcripts, feedback reports, and recordings (your voice and the AI participants' replies), along with the ratings, comments, and support messages you send us, to check that the simulated witnesses, objections, and coaching work as intended, and to fix problems. Reviews are for quality assurance and product improvement.
Opting out. To stop new voice recordings, switch off "Save recordings of my voice" in Account settings. Recordings already saved stay until you ask us to delete them. To ask us to stop reviewing your sessions, including any recordings, email hello@trialtutor.com from the address on your account and include your reasons for opting out. We will respond to your request by email.
4. Your case information
Because sessions are recorded and may be reviewed, practice with hypothetical or de-identified facts. Keep attorney-client privileged material and confidential client information out of TrialTutor during the beta. We are planning a paid tier for people who want complete privacy, including for real case information, and will describe its protections when it launches.
5. Who can see your information
- You can see your own sessions, reports, and account details.
- TrialTutor administrators can see accounts, sessions, and reports, as described in section 3.
- Instructors with a TrialTutor instructor account can view student practice sessions and feedback reports.
- Service providers process information on our behalf: our database, sign-in, and file storage provider (where recordings are kept), our speech-to-text provider and our text-to-speech provider (they receive your live audio), our AI model provider (it receives the text of your session to generate responses and feedback), our postal-code lookup provider (the city and state for a ZIP code you choose to give us), our email provider, and our hosting provider.
- We may disclose information when the law requires it.
We do not sell your personal information.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your account, session history, and recordings while your account is active. To delete your account and the practice data tied to it, including recordings, email hello@trialtutor.com.
7. Security
We protect your information with access controls and encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, which is another reason to keep confidential client information out of the beta.
8. Who TrialTutor is for
TrialTutor is intended for adults. It is a practice tool and does not provide legal advice.
9. Changes to this policy
When we make a material change we will update the version and effective date above and ask you to agree again the next time you sign in.
